Are you on a budget but need a little renovating done?
I love it when my house looks pretty. All too often, I just don’t have the cash (always on a budget) to actually put into place what I see in my head.
There is nothing like spring to get you in the mood for a bit of home decorating. Your bedroom is most likely piled with furry blankets, throws and hot water bottles. With the warmer weather on its way, it’s the time to infuse some colour and give your bedroom a fresh look.
The bedroom is an area that can be freshened up quite easily on a budget. Try some of our top tips for injecting some spring flair into your room.
New bed linen
White bed linen that can take you from season to season with just a throw to update it is always a good option but we can’t help loving the new homewares range from Cotton On. If you have a simple theme in your bedroom this gorgeous doona cover set at $169 for the queen set, could be a fun way to inject some fresh into your room.
It is made from a made from a breathable linen cotton blend that’s been enzyme washed for a unique distressed look and feel.
Add a rug
This is a great option for renters, especially when the carpet in your pad might just be getting a little bit tired. You can often pick up a quality second-hand Persian rug on eBay. Don’t be put off by having to have it cleaned. These rugs are made to last and a clean will breathe new life into a rug.
If you have hard floors, consider a circular rug, perhaps in a rattan for that summer beachside feel. We love this one from Adairs that comes in at under $200
If you have an ensemble bed, there is such potential to change the look of your room just with the headboard. For those who love a good vintage shop raid, look out for old doors, gates or we are loving these old oars turned into a headboard from Bees Knees Bungalow.

Light me up
The bedroom should be a restful place so get rid of those bright overhead lights. Add a touch of whimsy with a string of fairy lights, the perfect accessory to those summer balmy nights. I love lights have a great selection including these Moroccan inspired copper lanterns.
Or we love this super simple grown up version of a fairy cave but don’t be afraid to unleash you inner child when it comes to lighting. If you are going to let your home decorating fantasies run wild, the best place for it is in the bedroom.

A lick of paint
There is nothing that dates a room more than daggy 70’s beige walls. No amount of interior design is going to help you there. The best course of action is to give your bedroom a once over with a fresh white. It won’t date and you never have to worry about matching your bed linen. White walls are going to give you a fresh base palette to work from and you may find that this alone may give your current furniture and bedding a whole new lease on life.
Consider painting the room yourself to cut costs, although, if you have high ceilings or it’s a bit of a tricky job, you may find you actually save money in the long run by hiring a professional.
Before you blow your budget on redecorating, consider the inexpensive and DIY options. There is no point in sacrificing those home deposit or overseas holiday savings. With a bit of thought and planning you can have both. Check out the IMB Budget calculator and give you savings a helping hand.
