I am very angry… very disappointed … and in complete shock that in 2015 I would actually be writing this post.
Adults are the first to speak negatively about the younger generation and how disrespectful they are or how rude they can be. However what I witnessed today has made my protective mothering instincts come out fighting – Just leave our kids alone.
My hubby and I snuck out for a coffee and to catch up on our week we didn’t spend together. The coffee shop we chose is a local shop and was busy with Sunday brunchers, all adults and all relaxing enjoying each others company.
A young waitress (16 yr old student) took our order but seemed a little flustered. I commented to Hubby that she seemed flighty but we thought nothing else of it. I was busy chewing Hubby’s ear off when I noticed he lost interest in my conversation (this
never sometimes often happens) but I asked him why I was no longer the centre of his full attention. His response:
“Well, the owner has just walked past the waitress and hit her on the bum.”
WTF? I asked and he explained again what had just occurred right behind me.
In shock, I looked over to the waitress and noticed her little hand was shaking. My protective instincts kicked in and I asked Hubby if I should see if she was OK. Before I had a chance to that, this young girl (whom I do not know and have never seen before) chose our table to come over to, squatted down next to me and through little tears asked me, “It’s not OK for her to hit me is it?”
NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, it’s not OK I wanted to scream, but instead I quietly said to her, “No, it is not OK and never will be.”
Her tears flowed and I gave her a motherly hug and took her out of the coffee shop. We contacted her mum and between Hubby and her mum, they approached the owner, told her how her actions were not acceptable, received her pay for the day and quit her job.
What pissed me off even more was the fact that NOT ONE adult said anything except us. NOT ONE adult in that shop commented, offered any assistance to this terrified young lady or stood up for her rights and left the shop. WEAK I say. And I bet you are the types of adults who say how badly behaved the young people of the world are today – to this I scream..
LEAVE OUR KIDS ALONE
They are just children – no matter what age, they are children. We are there to protect them, to teach them, to have their backs and make sure they understand what is right and what is wrong. And this shitty behaviour from adults is never acceptable.
